Beauty and Debris Images From the life of an Urban Creek For a dozen years, I have been intensively photographing some of the beautiful offerings of a small urban creek near my home. It doesn't matter exactly where it is because it is typical of small waterways that run through a variety of urban environments.
Creeks provide drainage. If they are protected, they can also provide greenery, animal life, and places of refuge and recreation. Unprotected, they may devolve into garbage dumps. I had always tried to keep garbage out of my photos until I realized that garbage is part and parcel of the creek. If some of these compositions possess a perverse beauty, it is because the creek is working its magic with garbage as it does with leaves, mud and pebbles. Befoul it as we may, the creek only knows how to be beautiful
