When leaves begin to tumble into the creek in early Fall, they often get caught on rocks, twigs, or other impedimenta. One leaf catches another, and pretty soon a clump, or a dam, of leaves is formed. Sometimes they are bathed in the vividly colored reflected lights from blue skies and red and golden leaves still on trees; later they are covered in frost, snow and ice.
